Tradesman issue around rectifying some work
|
Around a month ago I had a new front door fitted, when we were quoted, it was a package that involved patching up the frame as well (Victorian terrace, original frame etc) instead of replacing.
Came home from work and the door is nice, but it doesn't look straight - because the frame is quite far out.
We raised our concerns and agreed to pay on the agreement the fitter would come back and do some more work to the frame so it looks straight after being given reasonable assurances, the guy does a lot of work locally.
He now won't return texts or calls.
Obviously the first mistake was not holding some of the money back until we were 100% satisfied, that ship has sailed now.
I have the guys business details etc - should I accept I've been mugged off and pay someone else to come in and sort it out or go through the courts?
Obviously I would go round and cunt him in the bastard, but I'm a lover not a fighter (and I'm not very 'ard).

Send him a Recorded letter offering him a last chance (letter of intent, or something like that?) to make right his iffy work before you go to the Small Claims Court.

If it is the 'original' frame you would need a magician not a carpenter to fit a new door to a Victorian building and it look right.

Frame condition is fine, loads of other doors in the area have been redone and they look straight.
Nothing on an old house is perfectly straight but it should at least look reasonably straight!

You said you asked him to patch up the frame which is out of level? Why do you think it should now look straight , did he price to replace it first?
